Wine and its soul

Tuscany has been known for its wine since Etruscan times. Join us and discover Tuscany, its wine history and the various DOCG wines for yourself. An interesting combination of culture, vineyards and culinary specialities await – and did we mention wine?

A cultural and culinary journey through Tuscany for all wine lovers

Programme

Day 1: Individual arrival at the resort in Pentolina.

Day 2: Tuscan aperitif and presentation of the week’s itinerary. In the evening, a wine tasting will be accompanied by an atmospheric classical piano concert in Pentolina’s quaint church.

Day 3: Chianti Classico Tour – visit the small town of Castellina in Chianti and start the tour through the Chianti Classico region, where you will explore the Casa del Chianti Classico and sample delightful wines. We will continue on to Castello di Brolio, owned by the founder of Chianti Classico, Baron Ricasoli. After lunch and a tour of the castle, you will have the opportunity to try the famous wines.

Day 4: Today, a special day in the famous Brunello region awaits. You will visit two vineyards and get a good understanding of how the wine is produced. Francesco Illy’s wine cellar Cantina Aurea not only offers unique wines, but also promises to give you an insight into exciting topics such as biodynamics, the cosmos and the ancient world. You’ll then go on a tour of the wine cellar, before being treated to a light lunch and a wine tasting. After a visit to the Sant’ Antimo abbey, you’ll be taken to a long-established vineyard, where you’ll indulge in a second tour including a wine tasting.

Day 5: Free day to spend as you wish. For example, you may fancy a spot of rest and relaxation in our wellness area.

Day 6: Today’s programme includes a visit to Italy’s oldest wine region, Carmignano. The exceptional significance of red wines from Carmignano was established from as early as 1369, when they were considerably more expensive than any other wines from the region. In the Capezzana wine cellar, a further highlight awaits with a wine tasting and lunch in the countess’s hall together with the Contini Bonacossi family, who will talk about their wines. To round off the day, you will visit the wonderful Certosa monastery, which dates back to the 13th century.

Hiking in Tuscany in the golden light of autumn

Have you ever experienced the golden light that floods Tuscany in autumn and the low mist that clings to the rolling hills like a delicate fabric? Come hiking with us and experience the incomparable beauty of Tuscany on idyllic hiking routes. Take in the nature, culture and culinary delicacies and discover a new highlight every day!

A week of hiking in Tuscany: Explore the region’s art, nature and culinary delicacies while hiking along its idyllic paths

Programme

Day 1: Individual travel to Pentolina. Tuscan welcome aperitif, meeting the other guests and introduction to the programme.

Day 2: The first hike will take you through the Feccia valley to San Galgano. There, you’ll visit the Rotonda chapel and the famous “roofless church” of the monastery, constructed in the 13th century. After a quick refreshment, we’ll head back to Pentolina. (Hiking time approx. 4½ hours; 14 km; +/- 330 m).

Day 3: The bus will take you to San Quirico d’Orcia, a small historic town to the south of Siena. After visiting the town, you will hike through olive orchards and oak forests and past ancient strongholds. The view over the gentle landscape of the Orcia valley will be with you the whole way. Today’s destination is Bagni Vignoni, with its large medieval pool in the centre of the village. Afterwards, recover from your walk in one of the many hot springs. (Hiking time approx. 4 hours; 12 km; +/- 350 m).

Day 4: Today we travel by bus to Gaiole, located in the heart of the Chianti region. The Etruscans were the first to plant vines and produce wine. The region was later fiercely contested by the rival cities of Siena and Florence during the Middle Ages. Hike through magnificent vineyards, past castles, ruined watchtowers and imposing medieval walls into sleepy villages. After the hike, you’ll visit the Castello di Brolio, where you can optionally take part in a wine tasting (Hiking time approx. 4 hours; 12 km; +/- 350 m).

Day 5: Free day to spend as you wish. For example, you may fancy a spot of rest and relaxation in our wellness area.

Day 6: Your coach will drop you off near San Gimignano, the “Manhattan of Tuscany”. You’ll see a whole host of mediaeval towers during the hike. Upon reaching the town, you can expect lunch to be accompanied by Vernaccia, the region's famous white wine. After eating, you’ll discover more about the town on a guided tour before having free time to spend as you please. (Hiking time approx. 4 hours; 12 km; +/- 300 m).

Day 7: The bus takes you to Ancaiano, a small town at the foot of the “Montagnola Senese”. Today’s walk leads you from the plateau west of Siena over the hills and down into the Elsa valley: an area of great historic, geological and natural interest. Pass by the villas and Romanesque churches that border the famous Via Francigena route and walk through secluded forests of chestnut trees and holm oaks where hermits once made their retreats. At the end of the walk, you’ll visit a beekeeper and have the chance to sample the delightful fruit of his honey bees’ labour. A farewell dinner with the group awaits in the evening. (Hiking time approx. 4 hours; 12 km; +/- 400 m).
