Westerland Aalborg – Between the North Sea and the Wadden Sea
“Drive out winter from the island on 21 February, Sylt’s National Day. Be enchanted by the sea of lights at the burning of the Biiken and join the locals for a cheerful evening with a feast of kale, gammon and pig's cheek.”
The Westerland Aalborg resort is located in a quiet side street in the town centre in the direct vicinity of the pedestrian zone and the beach. The spa resort Westerland offers everything for perfect holidays for the whole family. The North Sea island of Sylt is well-known for its unique, mild maritime climate and is ideal for relaxing, hiking and sports. Also with regard to cuisine, Westerland leaves nothing to be desired.
Holidays in Westerland offer both dreamlike natural landscapes on the mudflats and lively, glamorous town life with bars and trendy boutiques. The attractions of Sylt are within walking distance from the Margarethenhof apartments, as is Friedrichstrasse, the town's shopping district. Hiking on the mudflats, horse riding on the beach, surrounded by green dikes and majestic cliffs, or extensive walks through the dunes are a pleasure for all the family. In summer, the sun only goes down at midnight. Enough time to feel the salty sea breeze against your skin, watch the wild surf pound the west coast of Sylt, and let the wind ruffle your hair. Tennis courts and golf courses are also nearby. The coastal strips stretch for kilometres, the maritime climate is mild. Rare birds and butterflies fly through the air. Take a nap in one of the famous wicker beach chairs, breathe in the fresh sea air and let your gaze wander to the horizon. A trip to Keitum is a nice change. This was once the main town on Sylt and is among the most beautiful villages in North Friesland. Also the neighbouring islands of Amrum, Föhr, Röm and the Hallige (small islands) are worthwhile destinations. Back at the resort, swimming in the indoor pool is a nice way to relax. In the evening it is not far to gourmet restaurants and cheerful bistros in which guests can experience Frisian culture and culinary delights: Delicacies such as plaice and sole or freshly caught shrimps direct from the fishing boats. Also those who prefer meat or vegetarian food are very well catered for. The long tradition of hospitality on the island has drawn a considerable selection of good, varied restaurants to the area - including absolutely top-class cuisine.
