In search of Gaudí and Dalí

This tour will give you the chance to marvel at the works of surrealist Salvador Dalí and architect Antoni Gaudí. You’ll completely fall in love with the region of Empordà, with its plethora of contrasts from mountain to sea. You’ll also explore the vibrant Mediterranean city of Barcelona, where you’ll discover Catalan modernism and local cuisine.

Itinerary

Day 1: Individual arrival at Barcelona or Girona. Transfer from the airport to the Hapimag resort. Dinner with the group at resort restaurant La Brasa.

Day 2: Depart at 10:30am for Figueres – birthplace of world-famous artist Dalí – and visit to the Dalí museum. After a packed lunch on the Ramblas de Figueres, you will then visit the Castle of Púbol, a gift from Dalí to his wife Gala. Guided tour lasting approximately one hour. Journey back to resort. Individual dinner.

Day 3: Welcome cocktail at 10:00am. The group will then travel to Beget to admire the 13th century Romanesque church “Sant Cristòfol“. Along the way, we’ll make a brief stop at Castellfollit de la Roca, a typically Catalan village where the most of the houses are built using volcanic rock. After lunch in a traditional restaurant, we will continue on to Besalú. The little town is considered a cultural asset; everything about it is medieval, historice and of artistic importance. Return to the resort.

Day 4: Free day to spend as you wish. Dinner with the group at the resort.

Day 5: Depart at 9:00am for Cap de Creus – the most easterly point of the Iberian peninsula. We will go on to visit the well-known Salvador Dalí museum in his house in Port Lligat. Having built up an appetite, we will then head for Cadaqués, where we will eat together in a renowned fish restaurant. On our way back to the resort, we will stop in Vilajuïga, a wine and olive-growing region with the denomination of origin “Empordà – Costa Brava”. Meal to finish the day.

Day 6: Today’s itinerary is all about world-famous architect Gaudí, whose buildings play so great a part in shaping Barcelona’s cityscape. We will then explore the famous Plaça de Catalunya and Barcelona's Old Town. Individual lunch in the “Boqueria” market hall. You will then have around two hours to spend as you wish or you can join an optional trip to Park Güell. In the afternoon you will see Gaudí’s most famous masterpiece – the Sagrada Familia. The day is rounded off with yet another highlight of Barcelona: the city’s landmark, the Montjuïc hill. Return to resort and themed group dinner at 8:00pm.

Day 7: The week’s itinerary will finish off with a little beach and exercise time. At 10:00am the bus will take us to Platja de Castel, where we will begin our walk. Along the way, we will see a number of Iberian excavations as well as “Dalí’s hut” where he created some of his work. Group lunch in surrounding area. You are free to spend the afternoon as you wish from 4:00pm.

Day 8: Group breakfast and individual departure.

The Pearl of the Danube

Budapest is considered one of the most beautiful capital cities in the world and is often referred to as the “Pearl of the Danube”. On the right-hand bank of the Danube is the older, hilly Buda with its historic attractions. On the left-hand bank, on the lowlands, is the younger Pest with its villas and bustling life. Programme

Day 1: Individual travel to Budapest. Transfer from the airport or train station to the resort. Welcome cocktail at the resort.

Day 2: In the morning, we will discover Budapest by bus. We will then head past the Parliament building into the city centre, where you will find the main attractions. While stopping at the citadel to take photos, we can enjoy spectacular views over the city. Travelling across the Elisabeth Bridge and through the City Park, we will then arrive at Heroes’ Square, which features the Millennium Monument.

Day 3: After the inspection of the parliament building with the valuable Hungarian coronation objects and the meeting rooms of the government you go to the rock church.In a cave inside Gellért Hill we will visit the Rock Church, which was chiselled out of stone. Later, in the market hall, we can find a large selection of local products and will have the opportunity to enjoy a typical Hungarian lunch. You are free to spend the afternoon as you wish.

Day 4: Day at leisure – Optional excursion to the Hungarian Puszta.

Day 5: Gödöllö, the former summer residence of Queen Elisabeth (Sissi), is situated east of Budapest. We will visit the second largest Baroque palace in the world and take a tour of the palace grounds to see the royal stables. We then enjoy a short break in the palace café.

Day 6: On an excursion to the Danube Bend, we will visit the crypt that houses the grave of Cardinal Mindszenty, a former Hungarian archbishop, who was a symbolic figure of the resistance against communism in Hungary. Afterwards, we will continue on to Szentendre and then Visegràd, which became a popular tourist destination as early as 100 years ago.

Day 7: On a guided walk around the Buda Castle Quarter, we will visit Matthias Church and the castle residence, which is a listed building and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The tour guide will provide us with lots of interesting facts about the building and the Fisherman’s Bastion. Amid the bright lights of the city, we can look forward to a farewell dinner on the boat and raise our glasses to a successful trip.

Day 8: Option to extend stay or take the transfer to the airport or train station and make your own way home.

On foot, you will explore the Loreto shrine, St. Vitus Cathedral, the Royal Palace and the famous “Golden Lane”. In the evening you will visit an opera performance in the National Theatre.

Day 3: Walk through the old town with its picturesque, narrow streets and historic squares. You will cross Wenceslas Square and pass the Powder Tower and Old Town Square before reaching the famous Charles Bridge. You can then enjoy lunch at a restaurant in the Little Quarter. You are free to spend the afternoon as you wish.

Day 4: In the evening, you will see a show in a black light theatre. A stage with a black velvet backdrop allows wonderful effects to be achieved using light, while the artists appear to move around freely in space.

Day 5: Trip to Podebrady, where you will visit a crystal factory. You will then continue on to the sandstone region known as the “Bohemian Paradise”. Walk through the “rock city”. This is followed by a visit to Sychrov Castle.

Day 6: In the morning, you will visit the world-famous Jewish Quarter of Prague. Stroll through the narrow streets, visit the old synagogues and the unique Jewish cemetery. You are free to spend the afternoon as you wish.

Day 7: You will travel to Konopiste Castle, the former residence of Franz Ferdinand, the one-time heir to the Austrian throne. A very interesting castle with a large collection of furniture and porcelain awaits you. In the evening, you can look forward to a farewell dinner with the group at a restaurant by the Vltava river.

Day 8: Option to extend stay or make your own way home.
