Benvenuti a Cavallino-Treporti!

Finally we can say: welcome to Cavallino-Treporti. The Hapimag resort on the Italian side of the Adriatic Sea opened its doors at the end of July after a construction phase lasting almost two years. Pre Opening Manager Kuno Estermann could hardly wait until the hotel opened and reveals what guests can particularly look forward to in the following interview.

With Venice on one side and the sea on the other, the Hapimag Resort Cavallino-Treporti harmonises Italian charm with everything you would expect of a beach holiday and a city break. And it is the perfect place for a holiday with the entire family. Since 28 July 2018, guests are being welcomed to 125 holiday apartments, a restaurant serving fresh regional specialities as well as a café snack bar with an ice cream parlour and a shop – all under the Italian sun. The resort will also boast a wellness area from 2019 onwards. Pre Opening Manager Kuno Estermann knows what else awaits the guests.

Kuno, the construction phase is history and you are welcoming your first guests. What were the biggest challenges you faced over the last two years?
The problem that caused us the most trouble was the transport logistics. There’s only one road from Jesolo to our resort. This means that all of the traffic had to travel via this road, which was not always easy, as the peninsula clocks up three million overnight stays from the end of May to the middle of September. As a result, the road was packed with vehicles. Staff recruitment also did not prove to be a simple process, as the local season begins at the end of April. Nevertheless, we managed to find professional and committed employees.

Which final jobs were undertaken shortly before the opening?
A couple of days ago we added the last few finishing touches in order to be ready for the first guests. Some of the holiday apartments still needed to be furnished, as did the public areas such as the reception, the restaurant, the pool bar and the shop. In terms of the outdoor areas, work still needed to be carried out on the Biostrasse roads between the buildings, and the lounge area was completed.. The wooden flooring around the swimming pool had been installed.

What can your guests expect?
An amazing resort! You immediately notice that a great deal of importance has been attached to the shapes and colours used. All of the 125 holiday apartments are equipped with two bathrooms, while the 59 3-room holiday apartments each feature two TVs. Every holiday apartment naturally comes equipped with a dishwasher, a microwave oven, an air-conditioning system, Internet access and a terrace or balcony. There is also a parking space for each holiday apartment available in the underground car park. The recreational facilities are taken care of too: An outdoor swimming pool (25 m x 10 m), a children’s pool (5 m x 6 m), loungers and parasols, a children’s playground and the Mini & Maxi Club ensure there is something to entertain the whole family. If you get hungry, the café snack bar with an ice cream parlour and shop as well as the Trattoria e Pizzeria Tamigi Sei are sure to have something to tickle your taste buds. From 2019, our guests will also be able to be pampered with a wide range of massages and beauty treatments in our wellness area. Alternatively, they will also be able to relax in the various saunas and the relaxation room.

What makes the Hapimag Resort Cavallino-Treporti so special?
It has an above average number of 3-room holiday apartments – 59 in total. These are particularly suited for families. However, this isn’t the only plus point here –something else that I really like is that the resort satisfies a large number of guest requirements at the same time: those looking for culture will strike it rich in Venice, there are a number of golf courses close-by for golfers to enjoy a round or two, families with small children will have fun on the beach right at their doorstep and cyclists will enjoy the numerous signposted cycle paths. Other great ideas include walks on the beach for as long as your legs can take you, or a trip to the lagoon one kilometre away from the hotel, where you can take a trip on an electric boat to experience unrivalled sunset views. The Cavallino-Treporti peninsula is also a very fertile area, with fresh fruit and local vegetables being sold at the market, just a few metres from the hotel.

The hotel gardens are not fully finished yet. How are you dealing with this issue at the moment?
The construction work for the resort had been somewhat delayed. This is due on the one hand to the unfavourable weather conditions in winter and on the other hand, to new statutory provisions which had come into force during the construction phase. This meant that it was not possible to plant everything on time. At the moment, it is just simply too hot to plant anything. We are therefore attempting to cover the key areas with rolled sod as a temporary measure to keep the garden areas looking nice.

What are the catering options at the hotel?
We didn’t want to do anything outlandish, so our motto is “fresh, authentic and good value for money”. The centrepiece of the Tamigi Sei restaurant is definitely the wood-fired pizza oven. The restaurant also offers high-quality fish and meat dishes, with pasta and an extensive salad buffet rounding off the menu. You can enjoy snacks by the pool and pick up produce from local organic farmers in the shop. As we don’t want to compete with the large supermarkets in the village, we are consciously focusing on providing local and authentic products.

What are you looking forward to the most?
Welcoming our guests of course! They will bring life to the resort.

What is your personal tip for guests visiting Cavallino-Treporti?
Every guest should visit Venice at least once. I am overwhelmed by the lagoon city every time I visit.

Cavallino-Treporti was not the first new opening that you have experienced first-hand. How many times have you been involved with a new opening?
Cavallino-Treporti is my fifth opening. I have already opened resorts in Cannero and Scerne di Pineto and was involved in the openings in Pentolina and Cefalù.

Was there anything different or special this time?
Is it often difficult to convince the local authorities and municipalities how a new Hapimag resort would benefit the region and local area. All too often, the positive effects are unfortunately only apparent after a few years. This is not the case in Cavallino-Treporti. Here, they know how to attend to guests and the location is set up to meet a wide range of needs. Were you to go anywhere else, it would take years for all of this to be successfully put in place.

We would like to thank you, dear Kuno, for the insights you have provided and for taking part in this interview. A presto at the Hapimag Resort Cavallino-Treporti!
