Botany at the Mediterranean

In April 2008, we again spent two weeks at the Hapimag resort Sea Garden in Bodrum (TR). For us, the Sea Garden is one of the nicest Hapimag holiday resorts: it has a great botanical garden away from all the noise of coast tourism and is situated on its own two Mediterranean bays.

Picturesque nature

The resort has everything the holidaymaker's heart desires: a small shopping street with supermarket, shops, restaurants, travel agency and doctor's practice. Beach paths for hiking through picturesque natural scenery with a view of the Aegean, to fishermen who serve freshly caught grilled fish. And the beautiful Knidos bathing area with Turkish bath (hammam), whirlpool, indoor pool, sauna and various massage applications.

Friendliness and competence

Not least thanks to the very friendly and competent staff everywhere on the Hapimag site, we felt very much at home.

Wonders of the ancient world

But also outside of the Hapimag holiday resort there is a lot to see and do: in the town of Bodrum we visited one of the wonders of the ancient world, the tomb of King Mausolus, who gave us the word mausoleum. It was destroyed but is to be reconstructed.

Near Bodrum is the second wonder of the ancient world, the temple of Apollo in Didyma, that Alexander the Great wanted to help finance, and that Caesar actually did help finance – magnificent, and today still not completed. And there are also more interesting ancient Greek sites in the vicinity and wider region of Bodrum: Milet, Priene, Heracleia, Aphrodisias, Ephesos and, further north, Pergamon and Troy. It is the country of Homer and his songs. Bodrum, a region of Asia Minor where the roots of European occidental culture are located.
