Westerland Aalborg & Margarethenhof – The inhabitants of the North Sea coast

We can take a boat trip to discover the surroundings of Sylt and the natural sea life. We will sail past porpoises and seals and come across a colony of grey seals. We can also make an excursion to the neighbouring islands of Amrum, Föhr, Rømø, Helgoland and the Halligen islands on the boat.

  • Excursions

Delicacies can be bought at the weekly market on Saturdays (also on Wednesdays in summer) in front of the Westerland town hall. Or keep your feet dry while exploring the ocean on boat trips from List and Hörnum (both 17 km away).

  • Museums

Alongside the modern advantages of Sylt, there is an interesting past. In Keitum (4.5 km), you will learn of the history of the island up to 1850 in the Sylt Homeland Museum, and in the Old Frisian House you can plunge into the 18th century style of home furnishing.

  • Attractions

In Wennigstedt (4 km), the Denghoog large stone grave dating from the new stone age will impress, as it is constructed with stones that weigh up to 20 tons.

  • Nature

From May to October there are hikes where you can discover the secrets of the unique "Watt" or tidal shallows landscape. You will learn even more about the native fauna and also about exotic animals in the animal park in Tinnum (4 km).

  • Culinary activities

You shouldn’t pass up the opportunity to go to Friedrichstrasse and taste the fish specialities of the Sylt region. Delicacies ranging from plaice to sole, from cod to mullet and from crab to lobster are a real gourmet treat.
