Vermenton – Along the Canal du Nivernais

We embark on tours of discovery into the heartland of France starting from Vermenton. We travel northwards along the Canal du Nivernais to Auxerre, where we can expect cultural highlights. We pop the cork on a bottle of Crémant de Bourgogne in Bailly and enjoy the special atmosphere in the wine cellars. In Joigny we stop for a bite to eat in a famous 3-star restaurant.

The canal heads southwards and passes through fascinating unspoilt countryside and connects the Yonne and Loire valleys. The historic centre of Clamency is perched on a rocky promontory. In the narrow and winding alleyways, we discover the charm of the Burgundian architecture and the specialities of the local cuisine. Surrounded by vineyards, the town of Tannay sits on top of a hill overlooking the course of the Yonne. We stop and taste a drop of white wine, which has a surprisingly elegant bouquet due to the outstanding location of the vineyards.
