Merano – The residence in South Tyrol is being renovated
30.04.2012 / The excavation work in the Morgenstern building in Merano is now complete. Lines are currently being laid for the heating, electrical installations, sewage, IT installations and sanitary facilities. The building workers are also in the process of erecting new partition walls.Surprises can crop up again and again in an older building. "Structural problems emerged during the excavation work, which led us to erect new supports and supporting walls. We also noticed that individual lines could not be laid as planned", states Peter Beer, Project Manager Real Estate & Maintenance. Nevertheless the reconstruction work is going according to plan and the Morgenstern building is expected to reopen in September 2012.
16.01.2012 / The traditional Morgenstern building in Merano is being fully renovated and will be closed during the renovation work. The apartments in the other building can be booked as usual. It is planned to make the refurbished apartments available again for members in September 2012.
The renovation work in Merano has been underway since January 2012. All apartments will be completely refurbished; in some cases the room layout will also be altered. As a special feature, in the top-floor apartment there will be a "Poet's room" in honour of the poet Christian Morgenstern, after whom the building was named. This attic room can be reached via an internal staircase and will be furnished like an old study. The sauna will also be removed. The apartment for the disabled will be provided with new access from the garden via the living room.
Stays possible despite renovation
The entire residence will remain closed until the beginning of February 2012 (usual closed period). On 4 February 2012, the residence will open building 1 and the apartments can be booked as usual. The Morgenstern building will remain closed throughout the entire renovation. The sauna, the massage room, the small guest lounge and the washing machine for members are located in the Morgenstern building and therefore cannot be used.
Everything must go!
The renovation started with the removal of all furnishings and equipment and the old kitchens. Some partition walls are also being removed. The building technology such as the heating, the hot water/cold water pipes and the electrical/data lines is also being replaced.
