Glide along the historical waterways of the Canal du Midi (UNESCO world heritage site) past extensive vineyards, tree-lined avenues, sleepy villages and little wineries. There is no need to compromise on comfort, since our houseboats provide a means of transport and a cosy home in one.
Enjoy the expansive view as far as the Pyrenees, glide at a steady pace through the picturesque countryside of southern France, which has preserved its charm for centuries, and decide where you want to spend the day depending on your mood. Explore the region on foot or by bicycle (brought on the boat). Amble through the narrow streets of medieval Carcassonne, a former fortress city which is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Discover the culinary delights of the region at simple country hostelries and numerous weekly markets. Enjoy the oysters and mussels typical of the Canal du Midi or the regional speciality of Cassoulet, a stew made with white haricot beans, bacon and sausages.
The comfortably furnished boats ensure you feel at home on our houseboats on the Canal du Midi. The boats undergo a maintenance check before every departure. Before you set off you receive detailed instructions and go on a test run with expert support.
- The starting base in Capestang has an outdoor car park (EUR 25.- per week). Upon request you can also reserve a parking space in a closed garage (200 m from the base) (EUR 50.- per week). Due to the limited number of parking spaces we kindly request you make an advance reservation if you have more than one vehicle.
- Daily breakdown service for emergencies
- No boat licence required. Instruction and test drive carried out on-site.

- On-shore connection: 220 volts. Electricity on board: 12 volts, 100 watts. 220 volt sockets are also available in the interior of the boat. You can operate any standard electrical equipment that you bring with you (hairdryer, mobile phone charger, etc.) from a corresponding on-shore power supply (available in most harbours).
- Your houseboat will be provided with a full tank (enough for two weeks).
- Sailing days are Friday or Saturday. Arrival between 14.00 and 17.00. In the event of a delay, please inform the base.
- The boats come equipped as standard with life jackets and a lifesaver ring. Life jackets for children are available from our on-site staff on request.
- Please note that the locks in the Midi region will remain closed on 1 May.
The south of France is famous all over the world for its excellent cuisine. Top-quality regional specialities are available in abundance here. Our employees will be glad to help you choose a suitable restaurant along the canal.
You will receive a river guide with precise and detailed maps, as well as a Hapimag logbook in five languages containing information on necessary preparations approx. five weeks before the start of your trip.
Please read the logbook carefully. It will increase your anticipation of a great holiday and at the same time prepare you optimally for your trip.
To the logbook
- The local charges are settled from Baar upon resrevation
- A boat driving license is not required
- The participant must hand the boat back at the base at 9.00 on the last day
- The boat driver must be at least 25 years of age
- Recommendation: Minimum occupancy of 3 persons
- Please note that the locks in the Midi region will remain closed on 1 May
- If your trip occurs across weeks with different prices and points debit, the invoice will be calculated on a pro-rata basis
- The houseboats are not suited for people with walking disabilities or wheelchair users
