Capestang – Idyllic UNESCO world heritage site
There are countless places along the way where we can stop off and visit the sights or enjoy the wonderful surroundings. We take a trip towards the Mediterranean, where we experience the wild, romantic countryside and multitude of lakes. We wonder at the wide variety of water birds and try the fresh oysters.
Canal du Midi
The Canal du Midi - a unique artificial waterway and pioneering structure of the 17th century between the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, leading through the most beautiful landscapes and towns of southern France. It has had UNESCO World Cultural Heritage status since 1995.
Canal de la Robine
This canal runs 32 km from the Canal du Midi to Port-la-Nouvelle, where it flows into the Mediterranean. Surrounded by "Pins-Parasol", the distinctive umbrella pines, the Canal de la Robine offers a particularly attractive landscape. Between Narbonne and the sea the canal flows through a flat lagoon landscape.
Rhone-Sète canal
This waterway with a dyke runs along the Mediterranean coast in the midst of inland lakes.

- From the Etang de Thau to Aigues-Mortes, there are almost no locks on the way to the Mediterranean. By bicycle, you can enjoy wonderful excursions to the sandy beaches in the surrounding area

Attractions
- Staircase locks of Fonsérannes: seven locks negotiate the spectacular drops in the stretch between Fonsérannes and Béziers.
- Carcassonne: The Cathar fortress in this medieval walled town is world famous.
- Aigues-Mortes: From the "Tour de Constance" tower you can enjoy a clear view that stretches as far as La Grande-Motte and the salt mountains of the Camargue.

Towards Camargue you will discover wild, romantic countryside with lagoons, white horses and many birds. Towards Carcassonne, sycamore trees, umbrella pines and vineyards define the landscape. Via the branch canal "Canal de la Robine" you take the route towards the Mediterranean, past Narbonne as far as "Ile Ste Lucie": Stop for a short while on the island and take a walk through the conservation area.

Culinary activities
You should definitely try "Cassoulet". This casserole dish is typical of the region. "Bouillabaisse", the typical French fish soup, is also tasty. And the goose liver pâté "Foie gras" is well known for melting on the tongue.
