Ascona – Beautiful scenery south of the Gotthard
We explore sleepy, enchanting mountain valleys, impressive gorges and inviting bathing bays or drift across Lake Maggiore on a boat. In nearby Locarno we visit the Castello Visconteo, which was partly designed by Leonardo da Vinci, or enjoy unique panoramic views over Lake Maggiore from the Madonna del Sasso pilgrimage church that towers over Locarno. In Bellinzona, the imposing Castelgrande is a striking testament to medieval fortress architecture. We seek out a cosy corner, sit under the pleasantly shady pergola and feast on salami and fine prosciutto with fresh bread served with a glass of Boccalino red wine.
